Circles of Support
Do you have a passion to develop a longer term relationship with an IHN family or another previously homeless family or individual? Part of our strategy at IHN, and throughout the homeless provider community in Durham, is to be able to provide "Circles of Support" to households as they move out of homelessness into homes of their own. The idea is for a team of 4-10 people, from a faith community or other interested group, to provide support, mentorship and friendship for the first year after the family moves into their home. IHN families who are interested in this support will be matched with a Circle of Support, who will work with them in attaining their personal goals (financial, job-related, educational, parental, etc.). Our hope and expectation is that the Circle and the family will enrich each others' lives, while at the same time improving the likelihood of long-term success and residential stability for the family.
Circles of Support is one of the tactics spelled out in Durham's Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness, and this is a community-wide effort. Our goal for Circles of Support, and the goal of our sister agencies, is to engage the faith community and interested civic organizations in a program that will have a real impact in keeping our previously homeless guests from becoming homeless again. Information sessions have already begun, and the first training session for committed Circles of Support is targeted for July.
